ବନ୍ଦେ ବାଞ୍ଛିତ ଲାଭାୟ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ରାର୍ଦ୍ଧକୃତ ଶେଖରାମ୍ ।
ବୃଷାରୁଢ଼ାଂ ଶୁଳଧରାଂ ଶୈଳପୁତ୍ରୀଂ ଯଶସ୍ୱିନୀମ୍।।
ଦକ୍ଷ ଯଜ୍ଞରେ ଆହୁତି ଦେଇ ଦେବୀ ସତୀଙ୍କ ପ୍ରୟାଣ ପରେ ପୁନଶ୍ଚ ସେ ଶୈଳରାଜ ହିମାଳୟଙ୍କ କନ୍ୟା ରୂପେ ଜନ୍ମ ହୋଇଥିଲେ। ତେଣୁ ଦେବୀଙ୍କ ଏହି ରୂପକୁ ହେମାବତୀ ଓ ଶୈଳବତୀ ବୋଲି କୁହାଯାଏ।
ନବରାତ୍ରିର ପ୍ରଥମ ଦିନ ମା ଶୈଳପୁତ୍ରୀଙ୍କୁ ପୂଜା କରାଯାଏ। ଗ୍ରହମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ଦେବୀଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ପ୍ରଭାବିତ ବୋଲି ମାନ୍ୟତା ରହିଛି।
ସହସ୍ର ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟର ତେଜ ଧାରିଣୀ ମା ସମସ୍ତ ମହାଜାଗତିକ ଶକ୍ତିର ପ୍ରତିମା ଓ ଅଭୟ ବରଦାୟିନୀ। ଦେବୀ ଦ୍ୱିଭୁଜା, ଦକ୍ଷିଣ ହସ୍ତରେ ତ୍ରିଶୂଳ ଏବଂ ବାମ ହସ୍ତରେ ପଦ୍ମପୁଷ୍ପ ଧାରଣ କରିଥାନ୍ତି ଓ ମସ୍ତକରେ ଅର୍ଦ୍ଧଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ଶୋଭାପାଏ। ବୃଷଭ ବାହନ ଯୋଗୁଁ ତାଙ୍କୁ ବୃଷାରୂଢା ବୋଲି ମଧ୍ୟ କୁହାଯାଏ। ଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ଦେବୀଙ୍କ ଦ୍ୱାରା ପ୍ରଭାବିତ ହେଉଥିବାରୁ ମା ଶୈଳପୁତ୍ରୀ ସାଧକମାନଙ୍କ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ରଦଶା ଖଣ୍ଡନ କରିଥାନ୍ତି।

“Prathamam Shailputri”

The first night of Navraatri is dedicated to Maa Shailputri

*Name explanation*

Maa Shailputri is honoured on the first day of the Navraatri prayers. She is said to be the embodiment of the powers of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. She is described as a manifestation of Devi Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva. Shailputri literally means daughter (putri) of the mountain (shail). This because her father was also known as Parvatraj (King of the Mountains).

*Symbolic meaning*

The “mountain” represents determination and stubbornness. You might know the phrase “Hard as a rock”. How is this linked to Shailputri? Devi Shailputri is a strong individual with a strong will. This unique quality is found in infant girls (0 to 15 years) who are sometimes described as to be stubborn. Shailputri teaches us to transform our stubbornness into strength and courage. 

*Symbolic colour*

Red is believed to be the symbolic colour of Maa Shailputri and it represents Rajo Guna (activity). This activity is of essence to bring positive changes in your life during this Navraatri. 

*Mantra*
