Salabeg’s literary contributions also came at a time when the Bhakti movement in India had reached its pinnacle. This movement saw the emergence of poets and writers like Chaitanya, Jagannath Das and panchasakha, Tukaram, Nanak, Mirabai and Tulsidas among many others. “The 17th-century Bhakti literature was an attempt at reaching out to God without the inter-mediation of priests. According to local folklore, Salabeg began writing his bhajans in praise of Jagannath after his supplications were answered by the Lord. Yamin, in his book, has described the story as: “On the day of the car(t) festival, Nandighosha, the car(t) of Jagganath, on its way back to Srimandira, did not move and remained static till the arrival of Salabeg at Puri.” As the legend goes, after getting a glimpse of Lord Jagannath, Salabeg started living in Puri and composed his ‘bhajans‘ while living at the same place for the rest of his life.
After his death, Salabeg was cremated at this very location where now lies his Samadhi — at Badananda in Puri’s Grant Road. “Salabeg is the only devotee of Lord Jagannath whose Samadhi is situated on the way through which his chariot passes. To commemorate his devotion, every year during the Rath Yatra, the chariot is stopped outside his Samadhi for five minutes. All these instances show that Sanatan Dharma can easily be adapted and people all over the world are getting attracted to Sanatan Dharma is the proof of this. Jagannath, Puri had been invaded and plundered for eighteen times in the annals of history.

ଭାରତରେ ଭକ୍ତ ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନ
ସାଲାବେଗଙ୍କ ସାହିତ୍ୟିକ ଅବଦାନ ମଧ୍ୟ ଏକ ସମୟରେ ଆସିଥିଲା ଯେତେବେଳେ ଭାରତରେ ଭକ୍ତ ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନ ଶିଖରରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିଥିଲା। ଏହି ଆନ୍ଦୋଳନରେ ଚ ait ତନ୍ୟ, ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ ଦାସ ଏବଂ ପଞ୍ଚସାଖା, ତୁକାରାମ, ନାନକ, ମିରାବାଇ ଏବଂ ତୁଲସିଦାସ ପରି କବି ଏବଂ ଲେଖକଙ୍କ ଆବିର୍ଭାବ ହୋଇଥିଲା। “୧ th ଶ ଶତାବ୍ଦୀର ଭକ୍ତ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ପୁରୋହିତମାନଙ୍କ ଆନ୍ତରିକତା ବିନା ଭଗବାନଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ପହଞ୍ଚିବା ପାଇଁ ଏକ ପ୍ରୟାସ ଥିଲା। ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ଲୋକନୃତ୍ୟ ଅନୁଯାୟୀ, ପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନିବେଦନ ପରେ ଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କ ପ୍ରଶଂସା କରି ସାଲାବେଗ ତାଙ୍କର ଭଜନ ଲେଖିବା ଆରମ୍ଭ କରିଥିଲେ। ୟାମିନ ତାଙ୍କ ପୁସ୍ତକରେ ଏହି କାହାଣୀକୁ ବର୍ଣ୍ଣନା କରିଛନ୍ତି: “କାର (ଟି) ପର୍ବ ଦିନ, ନନ୍ଦୀଗୋଶା, ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ଦିରାକୁ ଫେରିବା ବାଟରେ ଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କ କାର (ଟି) ଆଗକୁ ବ until ି ନଥିଲା। ପୁରୀରେ ସାଲାବେଗର | ” କିମ୍ବଦନ୍ତୀ ଅନୁଯାୟୀ, ଭଗବାନ ଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କ lim ଲକ ପାଇବା ପରେ ସାଲାବେଗ ପୁରୀରେ ବାସ କରିବା ଆରମ୍ଭ କରିଥିଲେ ଏବଂ ସାରା ଜୀବନ ସମାନ ସ୍ଥାନରେ ରହୁଥିବାବେଳେ ତାଙ୍କର ‘ଭଜନ’ ରଚନା କରିଥିଲେ।
ତାଙ୍କ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ ପରେ, ସାଲାବେଗଙ୍କୁ ଏହି ସ୍ଥାନରେ ଶବଦାହ କରାଯାଇଥିଲା ଯେଉଁଠାରେ ବର୍ତ୍ତମାନ ତାଙ୍କର ସମାଦୀ ଅଛି - ପୁରୀର ଗ୍ରାଣ୍ଟ ରୋଡରେ ଥିବା ବାଦାନନ୍ଦରେ | “ସାଲାବେଗ ହେଉଛନ୍ତି ଭଗବାନ ଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କର ଏକମାତ୍ର ଭକ୍ତ, ଯାହାର ସମାଦୀ ତାଙ୍କ ରଥ ଦେଇ ଯିବା ରାସ୍ତାରେ ଅବସ୍ଥିତ। ତାଙ୍କର ଭକ୍ତିକୁ ସ୍ମରଣ କରିବା ପାଇଁ, ପ୍ରତିବର୍ଷ ରଥଯାତ୍ରା ସମୟରେ ରଥ ତାଙ୍କ ସମାଦୀ ବାହାରେ ପାଞ୍ଚ ମିନିଟ୍ ପାଇଁ ଅଟକି ରହିଥାଏ | ଏହି ସମସ୍ତ ଉଦାହରଣ ଦର୍ଶାଏ ଯେ ସନାତନ ଧର୍ମ ସହଜରେ ରୂପାନ୍ତରିତ ହୋଇପାରିବ ଏବଂ ସାରା ବିଶ୍ୱରେ ଲୋକମାନେ ସନାତନ ଧର୍ମ ପ୍ରତି ଆକର୍ଷିତ ହେଉଛନ୍ତି ଏହାର ପ୍ରମାଣ | ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ, ପୁରୀ ଇତିହାସର ବାର୍ଷିକୀରେ ଅଠର ଥର ଆକ୍ରମଣ କରି ଲୁଣ୍ଠନ କରିଥିଲେ।
