Baishi Stairs: The Baishi steps to enter the temple from the Gumut of the Lion Gate i.e. Kurmabedha, Roshshala, Anand Bazaar are known as the Baishi Stairs.  The Baishi stairs are made of monkey stone.  The stairs will be 6 feet wide, 60 feet long and 6 to 8 inches high.  Ancestors are worshiped on the Baishi steps.  On the second day of Asadha Shukla, devotees leave the Ratnasinghasan of the temple and come to the chariot on the main road through the Baishi Stairs.  The presiding deities of the Baishi Stairs are Maya, Consciousness, Wisdom, Sleep, Hunger, Shadow, Thirst, Kshanti, Race, Shame, Peace, Kanti, Profession, Memory, Mercy, Satisfaction, Selling, Mother, Delusion and Wisdom.

It is believed that every human being needs to go 22 steps to get rid of 22 types of sins.  22 steps is a symbol of 22 levels of yoga.  Jamshila is on the second level at Baishi Stairs.  It is believed that if devotees touch the rock and visit Jagannath, they do not die prematurely and all sins are destroyed and life goes on.  Legend has it that by worshiping Jambeswar, a childless king named Vanudev, he had a beautiful son.  At birth, the king learned that his son was only 22 years old.  Aware of his son's short life, King Vanudev again worshiped Jambeswar.  Satisfied with the devotion of the king of Jambeswar, he ordered the construction of a Baishi staircase inside the temple.  The king built the Baishi stairs and rolled them on the Baishi steps to extend the life of his child.  Devotees therefore climb the Baishi steps to increase the lifespan of their children.

ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚ: ସିଂହଦ୍ଵାର ଗୁମୁଟରୁ ମନ୍ଦିର ଭିତରକୁ ପ୍ରବେଶ କରିବାକୁ ଅର୍ଥାତ କୁର୍ମବେଢ଼ା, ରୋଷଶାଳ, ଆନନ୍ଦ ବଜାର ଯିବା ପାଇଁ ଥିବା ବାଇଶି ଗୋଟି ପାହାଚ ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚ ନାମରେ ଜଣା । ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚ ବଉଳମାଳା ମାଙ୍କଡ଼ା ପଥରରେ ତିଆରି । ପାହାଚଗୁଡ଼ିକର ଓସାର ୬ଫୁଟ, ଲମ୍ବ ୭୦ଫୁଟ ଓ ଉଚ୍ଚତା ୬ଇଞ୍ଚରୁ ୭ଇଞ୍ଚ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ହେବ। ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚରେ ପିତୃପୁରୁଷଙ୍କୁ ଶ୍ରାଦ୍ଧ ଦିଆଯାଏ । ଭକ୍ତମାନେ ବର୍ଷସାରା ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚ ବାଟଦେଇ ଶ୍ରୀଜୀଉମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦର୍ଶନ କରିବାକୁ ଯାଉଥିବା ବେଳେ ଆଷାଢ଼ ଶୁକ୍ଳ ଦ୍ଵିତୀୟା ଦିନ ଶ୍ରୀଜୀଉମାନେ ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ଦିରର ରତ୍ନସିଂହାସନ ଛାଡ଼ି ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚ ବାଟ ଦେଇ ବଡ଼ଦାଣ୍ଡରେ ଥିବା ରଥକୁ ଆସିଥାନ୍ତି । ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚର ଅଧିଷ୍ଠାତ୍ରୀ ଦେବୀଗଣ ହେଲେ ମାୟା, ଚେତନା, ବୁଦ୍ଧି, ନିଦ୍ରା, କ୍ଷୁଧା, ଛାୟା, ତୃଷ୍ଣା, କ୍ଷାନ୍ତି, ଜାତି, ଲଜ୍ଜା, ଶାନ୍ତି, କାନ୍ତି, ବୃତ୍ତି, ସ୍ମୃତି, ଦୟା, ତୁଷ୍ଟି, ବିକ୍ରୀ, ମାତୃ, ଭ୍ରାନ୍ତି ଓ ପ୍ରଜ୍ଞା । 

ବିଶ୍ଵାସ ଅଛି ଯେ, ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ମଣିଷ ୨୨ ପ୍ରକାର ପାପରୁ ମୋକ୍ଷ ନିମନ୍ତେ ୨୨ ପାହାଚ ଅତିକ୍ରମ କରିବା ଆବଶ୍ୟକ । ୨୨ ପାହାଚ ଯୋଗ ବିଦ୍ୟା ବର୍ଣ୍ଣିତ ୨୨ଟି ସ୍ତରର ପ୍ରତୀକ । ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚରେ ଦ୍ଵିତୀୟ ସୋପାନରେ ରହିଛି ଜମଶିଳା । ଶ୍ରଦ୍ଧାଳୁମାନେ ଏହି ଶିଳାକୁ ସ୍ପର୍ଶ କରି ଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କୁ ଦର୍ଶନ କଲେ ଅକାଳ ମୃତ୍ୟୁ ହୁଏ ନାହିଁ ଓ ସମସ୍ତ ପାପ ନାଶ ହୋଇ ଜୀବ ବୈକୁଣ୍ଠଗାମୀ ହୁଏ ବୋଲି ଲୋକ ବିଶ୍ଵାସ ରହିଛି । କିମ୍ବଦନ୍ତୀ ମତେ ଭାନୁଦେବ ନାମରେ ଜଣେ ନିଃସନ୍ତାନ ରାଜା ଜମ୍ବେଶ୍ଵରଙ୍କୁ ଆରାଧନା କରି ସୁନ୍ଦର ପୁତ୍ର ସନ୍ତାନଟିଏ ଲାଭକଲେ । ଜାତକ ତିଆରି କଲାବେଳେ ରାଜା ଜାଣିଲେ ତାଙ୍କ ପୁତ୍ରର ଆୟୁଷ କେବଳ ୨୨ବର୍ଷ । ପୁତ୍ରର ଅଳ୍ପାୟୁ ବାବଦରେ ଅବଗତ ହୋଇ ରାଜା ଭାନୁଦେବ ପୁନଶ୍ଚ ଜମ୍ବେଶ୍ଵରଙ୍କୁ ଆରାଧନା କଲେ। ଜମ୍ବେଶ୍ଵର ରାଜାଙ୍କ ଭକ୍ତିରେ ସନ୍ତୁଷ୍ଟ ହୋଇ ଶ୍ରୀମନ୍ଦିର ଭିତରେ ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚ ନିର୍ମାଣ କରିବାକୁ ଆଜ୍ଞା ଦେଲେ । ରାଜା ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚ ନିର୍ମାଣ କରି ତାଙ୍କ ସନ୍ତାନର ଆୟୁ ବୃଦ୍ଧି ପାଇଁ ସେହି ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚରେ ଗଡ଼ାଇ ଦେଇଥିଲେ । ଶ୍ରଦ୍ଧାଳୁମାନେ ସେଥିପାଇଁ ନିଜ ନିଜ ପିଲାମାନଙ୍କର ଆୟୁଷ ବୃଦ୍ଧି ନିମନ୍ତେ ବାଇଶି ପାହାଚରେ ଗଡ଼ାଇ ଦେଇଥାନ୍ତି ।
